Special Treatments Before Shipping: Rapid cooling is essential to achieve maximum postharvest life. Harvest at 67-85 newtons firmness for best storage performance.
Mixed Loads: Pears generate ethylene and so should not be shipped with ethylene-sensitive commodities such as kiwifruit, persimmon, carrots, celery, cabbage, lettuce, and some flowers and nursery plants.
Cautions: Low О2 (less than 1%) may cause brown core and alcoholic off-flavors. High СО2 (greater than 0.5% with very low О2 or greater than 3% with higher O2) can cause core flush, surface pitting, core cracking and flesh discoloration. Unless CO2 can be removed, use 2% O2.
