Benefits of Ethylene Removal: Some Rose cultivars are sensitive to ethylene which can cause acceleration or inhibition of bud opening and leaf abscisson. Ethylene removal is recommended.
Special Treatments Before Shipping: Roses should be precooled and hydrated immediately after harvest. They should then be packed dry and held at low temperature throughout distribution. On removal from dry storage, roses should be recut and conditioned in preservative solution at 4-6°C for at least 3 hours.
Varietal Differences: There is variability among rose varieties in their response to controlled atmospheres. Care should be taken to test varieties before they are subjected to CA for extended periods.
Mixed Loads: Do not ship with ethylene producing commodities.
Cautions: Low О2may cause leaf discoloration. High СО2may cause blueing of petals. Controlled atmospheres may not be suitable for some rose varieties. For others, there may be no benefit.
