Mixed Loads: Apples generate ethylene and so should not be shipped with ethylone-sensitive commodities such as kiwifruit, persimmon, carrots, celery, cabbage, lettuce, and some flowers and nursery plants. Apples may nlmorb aromas from onions, garlic, and potatoes.
Cautions: Gloster apples are prone to development of water core and core flush and may develop senescent breakdown, shrivel, or ribbon scald. Core flush can be reduced through the use of low О2. However, O2 less than 1% can lead to injury, as can CO2 greater than 2% (core browning and core flush). Sensitivity to low O2 and to high CO2 varies by growing region so care must be taken if inexperienced with the particular source.
